Martian Meteorites
Welcome to Top Meteorite's martian meteorite page. Here we explore the many different types of martian meteorites found on Earth. Martian meteorites are pieces of Mars' surface ejected from the planet when its hit by asteroids and asteroidal fragments that eventually land on Earth.
Martian meteorites are subdivided into a variety of subclasses depending on their structure and composition. Martian meteorites are divided into the following subclasses: shergottite (olivine-phyric), shergottite (pyroxene-phyric), shergottite (lherzolite), nahklite (orthopyroxenite), chassignite (dunite) , clinopyroxenite, augite basalt, polymict regolith breccia.

Below we have summarized some of the key structural and compositional features which characterize the various subclasses of martian meteorites.
