Description: 5.48g end slice of amazing Acapulcoite meteorite NWA 17906. This acapulcoite is a beautiful example of these rare metal-rich primitive achondrite. This is a new acapulcoite that has just been classified by Dustin Dickens from the Laboratory for Meteorite Analysis and Classification (LMAC) at the University of Colorado Boulder's EPMA laboratory.
Below we have included some of the electron backscatter images (BSE) taken by Dustin during the analysis and classification process. The lightest colored areas are metals (Fe-Ni, kamacite) and sulfides (FeS, troilite). The mid grays are olivine and low-Ca pyroxene, and the darker grays are feldspar (sodic plagioclase), and the black areas are voids and silica polymorphs.
