Description: This is a martian meteorite fragment within a double-sided color photo display frame with stand. This is a real piece of Mars. This martian meteorite is ready for display in a collection cabinet or on a desk. The specimen is protected from the environment by a thin transparent membrane that also holds the meteorite in place for easy viewing from either side of the display. This is a fragment of the Martian meteorite official name - NWA 12669. The fragment in this display has a mass of 1.722 grams. A signed double sided full color certificate of authenticity referencing this specimen and its exact mass is also provided for each specimen.

Purchased: 2018 Jul

Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite)

History: Purchased in Ouarzazate, Morocco by Mohamed Aid in July 2018.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS; P. Carpenter, WUSL) Relatively fine grained with intersertal texture. Composed predominantly of zoned clinopyroxene and maskelynite (some exhibiting a curved, narrow lath-like habit) with accessory fine grained intergrowths of hedenbergite+fayalite+silica, Fe-Ti oxides, merrillite and pyrrhotite.

Geochemistry: Subcalcic augite (Fs_24.8-41.8Wo_31.4-24.3, FeO/MnO = 30-33, N = 3), ferropigeonite (Fs_66.9-73.0Wo_16.6-16.5, FeO/MnO = 41-43, N = 2), maskelynite (An_51.9-53.1Or_1.3-1.2, N = 2).

Classification: Martian (shergottite, fine-intersertal)
