Description: This very special and difficult to come by Fermo specimen was used in the research published by Italian meteoriticist Dr. G. Cevolani, and featured in the upcoming Meteorite Times Magazine article explaining his research. The main mass of the Fermo meteorite resides in a museum in Italy. As far as we know, this specimen along with three others, are the only known Fermo specimens to be made available for acquisition. The occurrence of refractory inclusions known as Calcium Aluminum-rich Inclusions (CAIs) in an ordinary chondrite is relatively rare, which makes Fermo a meteorite of interest to researchers.
History: A farmer, Mr. Luigi Benedetti, heard an explosion followed a few seconds afterwards by a crash on September 25. Two days later, Mr. Giuseppe Santarelli recovered a 10.2 kg stone from the place described by Benedetti. The main mass of the meteorite is housed in the Polar Museum, Villa Vitali, Fermo (AP), Italy.

A farmer, Mr. Luigi Benedetti, heard an explosion followed a few seconds afterwards by a crash on September 25. Two days later, Mr. Giuseppe Santarelli recovered a 10.2 kg stone from the place described by Benedetti. Classification and mineralogy (A. M. Fioretti and G. Molin, CNR; see Molin et al., 1997): a breccia of millimeter to centimeter-sized light and dark clasts in a gray matrix; one type 3 clast contains glass and has range of olivine, Fa2–27, and pyroxene, Fs2–22; an equilibrated clast has olivine, Fa18.2; matrix olivine uniform at Fa17.4.
