Northwest Africa 13674 (NWA 13674)

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H7)

History: Purchased by Craig Zlimen in 2018 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture among constituent phases is predominant, but there are also sparse pyroxene oikocrysts containing olivine chadacrysts. No remnant chondrules are present. Grain size is about 200 µm. Accessory phases include abundant altered kamacite, taenite, troilite, low-Ti chromite and merrillite. Secondary iron hydroxides are present on grain boundaries.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.6±0.1, range Fa18.5-18.7, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.4±0.1Wo3.8±0.6, range Fs16.4-16.5Wo3.4-4.7, N = 4), augite (Fs7.6±0.6Wo42.6±1.1, range Fs7.1-8.2Wo43.5-41.4, N = 2), plagioclase (An9.9Or7.9; An25.3Or2.8; N = 2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H7).

Specimens: 21.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. C. Zlimen.
