0.95g FERMO Chondrite H 3-5 Meteorite Slice I Italy Fall 2009 with Rare Book

Top Meteorite

  • $492.00

On Offer:  A 0.95 gram slice of the H 3-5 Fermo meteorite displaying some fresh black fusion crust on one side. This extremely rare Italian witnessed fall also includes an equally rare Italian language scientific monograph (book). This is one of only two copies of this monograph I have ever seen made available to the public.

Name: Fermo

Classification: H3-5

Fall: YES

Date Fell: 1996

Location: Marche, Italy

Description:  This very special and difficult to come by Fermo specimen was used in the research published by Italian meteoriticist Dr. G. Cevolani, and featured in both the monograph and a Meteorite Times Magazine article outlining his research. The main mass of the Fermo meteorite resides in a museum in Italy. As far as we know, this specimen along with three others (now with Mr. Mendy Ouzillou from SkyFall Meteorites), are the only known Fermo specimens to be made available to collectors. The occurrence of refractory inclusions known as Calcium Aluminum-rich Inclusions (CAIs) in an ordinary chondrite is relatively rare, which makes Fermo a meteorite of interest to researchers.

History: A farmer, Mr. Luigi Benedetti, heard an explosion followed a few seconds afterwards by a crash on September 25.  Two days later, Mr. Giuseppe Santarelli recovered a 10.2 kg stone from the place described by Benedetti. The main mass of the meteorite is housed in the Polar Museum, Villa Vitali, Fermo (AP), Italy.

What you get: A 0.95 gram slice of the H 3-5 Fermo meteorite as shown, shipping/storage membrane box, signed Certificate of Authenticity, and 95 page collectible Italian book: " Fermo, L' ultima celeste caduta in Italia nel secondo millennio", printed in black and white.

We offer a 100% no questions asked 30 day return policy.
