The HED Achondrite Meteorites Howardite Eucrite Diogenite
The HED achondrite meteorites; howardites, eucrites, diogenites, thought to come from the differentiated asteroid Vesta and the V-type vestoid asteroids are among the most studied and collected of the achondrite meteorites. Vesta, along with the thousands of smaller Vestoids are pyroxene-rich asteroids located in the inner region of the main asteroid belt with most orbiting at approximately 2.26 to 2.48 AU. The eucrites are thought to represent the mid to upper crustal region of the pre-impact Vestan parent body, and the diogenites are thought to represent the mantle and lower crust, with the howardites being a mix of both.Â
Classified HED achondrite meteorites; howardites, eucrites, diogenites with certificates of authenticity available for purchase on the Top Meteorite website.
Observed falls of HED meteorites are still relatively rare. There have only been 20 observed Howardite falls, 42 observed Eucrite falls, and 12 observed diogenite falls in recorded human history.Â
