Northwest Africa 12932 (NWA 12932) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2016 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated) History: Purchased Nov 2016 by Dustin Dickens in Mauritania from anonymous dealer. Physical characteristics: Single stone, fusion-crusted exterior, broken surface and saw cut reveals a light colored, fine-grained mix of plagioclase and pyroxene grains. Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows an ophitic texture with approximately 60% pyroxene and 35% plagioclase. Many pyroxenes have exsolution lamellae. Minor silica and troilite observed. Geochemistry: (C. Agee, UNM) Low-Ca pyroxene Fs61.9±0.6Wo2.8±1.1, Fe/Mn=31±1, n=8; high-Ca pyroxene Fs28.2±2.1Wo43.2±2.3, Fe/Mn=31±1, n=4; plagioclase An86.7±4.1, n=6. Classification: Basaltic eucrite, equilibrated, unbrecciated. Specimens: 20.6 g including a probe mount on deposit at UNM, Dustin Dickens holds the main mass. |
